Students will review all the different science lab tools and vocabulary with an emphasis on lab safety. A variety of topics in Life, Physical, & Earth Sciences are covered at each grade level following the latest Science TEKS. Students will also be introduced to the STEM approach (Science Technology Engineering Math) which will enable them to take the knowledge they have learned and utilize critical thinking to apply it real world problems. Technical writing will also be introduce with routine short writing opportunities in class and there will be many hands-on experimental and sensemaking labs.
The 5th grade curriculum includes observing habitats so they will be caring for and observing Padre’s Pond (by the gym) this year!
6th Grade is the year they get to make Earth’s core and solar system models (fun times ahead!).
7th Grade is the year they will make a model of the human digestive system and perform dissections.
8th Grade will create a model that demonstrates Newton’s three laws of motion and learn to balance chemical equations -watch out Organic Chemistry - here we come!

The playlist could include Google forms, online learning games, worksheets, models, etc. Notes are written in their Trackers for homework and test dates, or if something is needed for a lab.
Grading Expectations
Exit Tickets (short quizzes that count as part of the test grade) will be given after the introduction of new material to ensure comprehension. Major tests will be given at the completion of a overall concept (approx. every 2 weeks). The playlists are design to help students prepare for these tests. Major tests grades could also include demonstrations and models.
